Did you know that 1 in 2 Australian men and 1 in 3 Australian women will be diagnosed with cancer by the age of 85? Mums, dads, brothers, sisters and children—each and every one of us will be touched by cancer in our lifetime.
On the 28th of May I will be completing the Climb for Cancer once again to raise money for Cancer Research at the Mater. My motivation for supporting this amazing cause? Cancer has had a huge impact on my life. On the 24th of February 2016, I lost my mother, Shelley, after almost 7 years of fighting primary Breast Cancer with secondary Ovarian Cancer and Bone Metastases. She was only 51 years old, and I, her only daughter, 22. For that entire time, the Mater was our home away from home, visiting countless doctors and specialists, trying new treatments and fighting as hard as we could, together as a family.
The Mater Foundation has a special place in my heart as they support the important work of doctors and researchers, as well as the patients themselves, all of whom have a common goal of curing cancer. With further research, it is my hope that they can find a cure for this horrible disease so that other families don’t have to go through the pain and suffering that we have gone through.
As part of my fundraising, on Saturday the 13th of May I invite you to join me in supporting the Mater Foundation by joining me for what is set to be a very special night.
